Jessica and I tried out a new baby class today. The class, Salsa babies, helps you get back in shape, dance, and meet new moms while you hold your baby. Vilda and her husband Enrico started these classes because they wanted to share their love and passion for dancing. Vilda and her husband are very baby friendly. They do not mind if a baby screams, if you have to run out, or whatever may happen with babies (Ian and David were playing on the floor sending cars flying into our legs and across the floor and they did not seem bothered). I had a great time at the class. Vilda and Enrico seemed very calm, sweet, and knew what they were doing. It did not matter that Jessica and I have zero coordination. The class is not meant to make you into a salsa dancer. I felt like I got a good work out. If this class existed when David was born I would have signed right up. There are not that many workout with babies options on the Upper East Side. I am not a yoga person, so that was ruled out. I tried work out videos that had you use your baby as weight, that was ruled out very fast (it was very stressful to hold my baby over my head when he had volcanic spit ups). I always thought dancing was fun. Salsa babies is a great way to get back in shape without feeling like you are exercising....you just feel like you are having fun. (Yael)
I really really hate dance classes...In fact, my husband often had to psyche me up for our pre-wedding dance lessons. This class was a lot of fun though, and I left thoroughly exhausted. Today (a day later) my legs still definitely remember that they were forced to work out yesterday ;)...and I wasn't even wearing a baby in a front carrier! Vilda was a really sweet and patient teacher--and managed to keep a straight face when I stepped all over my own feet and lost track of the order of all of the steps. (Jessica)
